Milan’s Navigli – Tour Itinerary
This tour includes a walking tour to discover the Navigli area, the artificial channels that made the fortune of Milan since from the 12th century with the construction of the Naviglio Grande. Navigli in fact permitted the navigation of an area that extended from Lago Maggiore and Lago di Como through the entire valley to Basso Ticino and the sea.
During the century the hydro-web has been widen with the construction of the Naviglio Pavese and from the 14th century it had a role as a protagonist for the transit of materials aimed at the building of the Cathedral. The works at the Navigli proceeded with the realisation of the hollow of Viarenna and the Naviglio della Martesana. During the Renaissance period Leonardo da Vinci improved the hollow system that regulated the fluxes of water, as he was also a hydraulic engineer.
The Navigli tour permits the visitor to experience the story of the ancient Milan, discovering history, art and curiosities of the Darsena, Navigli, the Hollow of Viarenna, the “casere” and the “case di ringhiera”, the typical houses of this area, and the famous Vicolo dei Lavandai.
N.B. This tour is a walking tour and the navigation is not on schedule.
Children under 6 years old do not need to be signalled in the “Notes” space of the reservation form and won’t be provided with earphones when these are on plan.
