It is extraordinary the exhibition dedicated to Caravaggio from the 29th of September at the Royal Palace of Milan. Finally, after the exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome of some years ago, a monographic exhibition about the great artist Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio!

Times of entrance: Monday morning: 2.30-10.30 pm.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday: 09:30 am – 07:30 pm; Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 09:30 am – 10:30 pm.
The ticket office service ends one hour before the closure of the museum.
Closing days: Monday morning. On the 25th December and 1st January the museum has the following time of entrance: 09:30 am – 07:30 pm.

The Exhibition – Beyond Caravaggio

Milan is preparing to welcome one of the most awaited exhibitions of 2017. Caravaggio comes back to the Royal Palace on the 29th of September, birthday of the artist. Eighteen wonderful masterpieces will cross the doors of the Lombardy’s capital. Among the most important borrowings from outside Italy, it will be possible to admire: Holy Family with St John the Baptist from the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, Salomé with the head of St John the Baptist from the National Gallery of London, Saint Jerome from the Montserrat museum of Barcellona, St Francis in Ecstasy from the Wadsworts Atheneum of Art in Hartford, Marta and Magdalene from the Detroit Institute of Arts.

The title will be explained by an installation that will bring to the public the emotion and the possibility to admire the painting on the canvas. Also the realization process will be clear trough a multimedia device that will accompany every single canvas, in order to get inside the creative phase. To the instruments that were already used for the study of the twenty two roman works of Caravaggio from 2009 and 2012, new important diagnostic measures on the other works of art coming from abroad. Through the radiography, penetrating differently into the pictorial surface, we could follow Caravaggio’s creative procedure, his repentances, the remakes and the adjustments in the making of the composition. The exihibitiotn will follow a chronological order, more than the paintings it will be exposed also documents regarding human and artistic events of Michelangelo Merisi. The exhibition, curated by Rossella Vodret, will end on the 28th of January 2018. Extraordinary exhibitions are expected during the Christmas holidays and the New Year’s Eve.
